On May 7, 2009 Sgt. William Melville was appointed by the Board to serve as the President of the Iowa Peace Officers Association for the next two years.
Sgt. Melville has been with the Sioux City Police Department for 20 years. He moved to Sioux City from Minnesota in 1990. During his career he has worked as a Patrol Office, in the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, as a Traffic Investigator, Gang Unit Officer, Field Training Officer, and Community Policing Officer. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2001 and has been a Supervisor on afternoon and night shifts. He served as the Department's Training Coordinator and was in instructor at the National Training Center. He currently is assigned as Supervisor of the Alcohol Safety Action Program.
Sgt. Melville is an instructor for Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Verbal Judo, Skidcar, Low Lights, Rapid Response to Active Shooter Tactics, Active Countermeasures, Physical Conflict Resolution, PPCT, LIDAR, Patrol Rifle and Handgun/Shotgun.
President Melville and the Sioux City PD will host the 2011 Annual Training Conference in Sioux City, look for dates and location in the near future.
