Iowa Peace Officers

      Association

Officer Dean Sharp, Council Bluffs Police

Dean Sharp is the newest member to the IPOA board, appointed in November, 2012. Sharp will assume the Chair of the Finance and Membership Committee, with a commitment to increasing the association’s membership. “The appointment to the IPOA board was an opportunity to serve Iowa peace officers and make a difference. I look forward to the opportunity.”

Sharp comes to the board from the Council Bluffs Police Department, beginning his law enforcement career January, 1983. In nearly 30 years with Council Bluffs, Sharp has worked various assignments including Vice/Narcotics, Criminal Investigations and is currently assigned to the Uniform Patrol Division. While in Criminal Investigations, Sharp specialized in Checks and Fraudulent Crimes, becoming a Certified Fraud Examiner. He was also an original member of the Metro Fraudulent Crimes Task Force with US Secret Service, US Marshalls and Omaha Police.

Sharp is the current President of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #1, the organization representing the 90 sworn police officers in Council Bluffs. Sharp has held the position of President for 15 of his 30 years within the organization.

Sharp is the lucky husband to wife Kathi, a Surgical RN, and the proud father of three children. With the wife and two children having attended Iowa State University, the entire household are clearly Cyclone fans. When not working, Sharp officiates high school wrestling and baseball as a 25 year member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association. Officer Sharp received unanimous support from the members present at the 2013 IPOA Conference on April 23, 2013.

Officer Sharp serves as Chair on the IPOA Membership & Finance Committee.
