Jessica Winter - Urbandale Police Department

Jessica Winter has been a member of the Urbandale Police Department since 2005.  After earning her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Simpson College, she started her career with UPD working patrol from 2005-2013.  During this time, she worked night shift, day shift, swing shift and afternoon shifts. In September of 2013 she transferred to the Criminal Investigative Division and became a Detective.  She has investigated a variety of case types to include property crimes, financial crimes, and crimes against persons.  Winter also received specialized training in Fire Investigations, Trauma Informed Investigations, and Child Abduction Response.  In January of 2023 Winter transferred to the Support Services Division where she is the Officer for the newly created Crisis Intervention co-responder Team.  In addition to these general duties, Winter has also held several collateral duty positions to include Field Training Officer, Bike Patrol Officer, R.A.D. Instructor, Peer Support Team, and Honor Guard.  Winter has received numerous commendations during her career that include multiple Life Saving medals and a Meritorious Service medal.

Jessica is not the only member of her family who has chosen a life of service: her husband is a Lieutenant for the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire District, and her oldest a son is a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps.  Jessica also has a younger son still in school and three Australian Shepherds to keep her busy.

Representing, protecting, and advocating for law enforcement officers is something Jessica is passionate about.  Jessica has served on the executive board for the Urbandale Police Protective Benevolent Association and has been on the executive board of the Urbandale Professional Police Officers Association (Union) since 2020. Jessica is the current President serving in her second term as such.  Jessica is honored to be able to expand beyond just serving the officers of the Urbandale Police Department and instead being able to represent and advocate for Officers all over the State of Iowa as a member of the IPOA board.
