David Lorenzen is Chief of Motor Vehicle Enforcement for the Iowa DOT. David has been married to Cheryl for 33 years, she is a teacher with the Johnston Public School District. They have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. David grew up in Le Mars Iowa and currently lives in Waukee. He has spent over 33 years in Law Enforcement having graduated from the ILEA in 1979, (56th Basic). He began his Law Enforcement career as a Deputy Sheriff in Sioux County for the first five years and the past 28 years with the Iowa Department of Transportation Office of Motor Vehicle Enforcement. He has worked in Hawarden, Oelwein and was promoted to Chief in 2006.
Chief Lorenzen was elected by the Board and ratified by the membership to serve as President of the IPOA at the 2011 Conference in Sioux City on May 2nd. He has selected Gus Farmer, Waterloo PD to serve as Vice President of the IPOA. Chief Lorenzen was unanimously reappointed to serve as President for another 2 years at the April 22, 2013 IPOA board Meeting.
Chief Lorenzen teaches Sunday School at Valley Evangelical Free Church in West Des Moines. David's hobbies when not working include: working out, golf, spending time with family and of course, spoiling the grandkids.
