Cedar Rapids is a full-service municipal government and offers one of the most progressive city governments in the United States. Cedar Rapids has been operating under the council-manager form of government since January of 2006.

 

The Police Chief reports directly to the City Manager and leads a department of 203 sworn personnel, 24 non-sworn employees, 9 Animal Control and 27 Dispatch personnel. The annual operating budget for the department is $30.2 million. The department operates from a state of the art law enforcement facility. Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Chief of Police provides leadership, management and oversight for the overall operation and activities of the Police Department.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 15 years of related work experience in law enforcement; be at the rank of Captain or in some instances the rank of Lieutenant; will have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree, a Master’s degree preferred; and will be able to obtain Iowa Police Officer Certification within 120 days of being hired. Salary range is $101,129.60 to $139,048.00 depending on experience and qualifications. An excellent fringe benefit package will also be provided.

Police Chief

    The City of St. Cloud, MN (pop. 65,842) is seeking applications for the position of Chief of Police.  The City of St. Cloud is located in central Minnesota, about 70 miles northwest of Minneapolis-St. Paul.  The community’s central location in the state has fostered a diverse, vibrant economy based on manufacturing, agriculture, national and international industry and retail sales and services. The Chief of Police is an integral part of the City’s Executive Leadership team. The Chief manages a budget of over $13 million, and oversees a staff of 104 sworn officers and 57 full and part-time civilian employees. 

    The successful candidate will possess, at a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with a degree in Police Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field and graduation from an academy or institute in police administration such as the FBI National Academy, Northwestern Traffic Institute, or Southern Police Institute.  Along with the required education, the candidate must have a minimum of ten years progressively responsible police administration experience in a department of comparable size and similar budget authority, including at least six years in a command/supervisory capacity.  The new chief must be familiar with Minnesota Law and eligible for licensure within the State of Minnesota.

CHIEF OF POLICE

CITY OF WEST DES MOINES, IOWA

 

Under the general direction of the City Manager, the Chief of Police of the City of West Des Moines provides leadership, management and oversight for the overall operation and activities of the Police Department.

 

The minimum job requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration or equivalent, Master’s Degree preferred;  at least 10-12 years of related work experience in Police Operations with considerable management experience;  graduation from the FBI Academy, Southern Police Institute or similar credential will be a plus; and Iowa Police Officer Certification, within 120 days of hire.

 

The City of West Des Moines has operated under the council-manager form of government since 1964 and has had five City Managers during that time period. West Des Moines is a full service municipal government providing a wide array of City services. The City is on a July-June fiscal year and has a total budget of $141 million, $24.8 million Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and 369 FTE staff.
